Springfield Ballet celebrates its 40th anniversary season this year, and the company has presented an annual holiday production of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker for 31 of those years.  This year’s performances are December 16-19 at the Landers Theatre, but prior to that the company will offer “A Night for the Nutcracker,” a fundraising evening during which the new set will be revealed to the public.

Springfield’s Hotel Vandivort, a recently opened boutique hotel in downtown, is the city’s first hotel to be awarded a Four Diamond Rating by AAA professional hospitality inspectors.

In a news release, Co-Owner John McQueary calls the designation another piece in allowing Springfield to compete with larger metropolitan areas.

The Hotel Vandivort in Springfield’s sprawling downtown opened its doors to guests Monday. This is one of many historic buildings getting a second chance as part of center city’s revitalization. KSMU’s Theresa Bettmann takes us on a tour of the renewed structure, a project that owners refer to as a “labor of love.”

Calling it an economic spark for downtown, Springfield developers and officials expressed excitement during groundbreaking festivities for Hotel Vandivort. KSMU’s Scott Harvey has more on the plans for this historic structure, which is scheduled to open in mid-2014.
