Hundreds gathered inside Missouri State University’s Ellis Hall Sunday for the renovated music building’s dedication ceremony. Community members filed in for self-guided tours and to hear music by Missouri State’s Chorale and brass band.

Dr. Shawn Wahl, interim dean of the College of Arts and Letters, said the upgraded facility sends a message to students to be “bigger and bolder.” He said Missouri State can now be a “destination school” for the arts.

There is a new leader at the helm of Missouri State University's College of Arts and Letters (COAL).

Dr. Shawn Wahl, former department head of communication, took charge of COAL as interim dean on July 1, 2017, after Dean Dr. Gloria Galanes retired.

Communication Week is a signature event for Missouri State University’s Department of Communication. It focuses on highlighting communication teaching and research, as well as bringing together students, alumni and community members to network.

This year, the week-long event themed “Make Your Missouri Statement” will take place on campus from Feb. 21-24.
