Springfield Regional Opera celebrates 35 years of opera in southwest Missouri with a gala concert Saturday October 3rd at 7:30pm in Drury University Clara Thompson Hall.  They'll collaborate with the Springfield-Drury Civic Orchestra, whose Music Director Christopher Koch is also SRO's new Music Director.  SRO also has a new Artistic Director in place as well.  He's an alum of the opera company who's gone on to an international career as a tenor performing some of the most difficult and treacherous music in the repertoire: the (often) extremely high-lying, and (just as often) highly florid

Dr. Christopher Koch (pronounced "Cook," by the way) has just been appointed Music Director of Springfield Regional Opera, and he adds that title--and all the responsibilities thereof--to an already rather full plate.  Dr. Koch is an associate professor of music at Drury University, where he directs the Orchestra and Wind Symphony programs.  He has also been Music Director of the area's regional community orchestra, the Springfield-Drury Civic Orchestra, for more than a decade.

The dicey/icy winter weather this weekend caused Springfield Regional Opera to postpone their production of Street Scene until sometime in May, according to Managing Director Tim Caldwell and Production Coordinator Seth Hunt. “We rely heavily on people in the community to do our shows.  We had many students from MSU, Drury and Evangel involved. A lot of them are graduating, and we want to get them before they leave!” said Caldwell. Tickets already purchased for this weekend will be honored in May.
