A planned merger between Bolivar’s Citizens Memorial Hospital and Springfield’s CoxHealth has been canceled.

The two healthcare organizations announced today they’ve decided the timing is not right for the partnership.

Officials with Bolivar-based Citizens Memorial Hospital and CoxHealth in Springfield have signed a letter of intent to merge the two, making CMH a part of Cox.

The announcement came in a joint press release Friday morning.

It describes a due diligence period during which both entities will explore the details of one another’s business practices before reaching a final agreement. That could come as soon as mid-2017.

Two graduates of Glendale and one from Kickapoo High School make up Springfield Public Schools’ Hall of Fame Class of 2015.

The selection committee has chosen Steve Edwards, Susan Everett Provance and Dr. Anthony Hlavacek as this year’s inductees.

Edwards and Provance are both graduates of Glendale and currently work in Springfield. Edwards is the is the president and CEO of CoxHealth. Provance is the community recreation administrator for the Springfield-Greene County Park Board, and a retired coach for SPS.
