The president of the University of Missouri System says MU Extension is an integral part of its institutional offerings.

Dr. Mun Choi visited the Greene County extension office Wednesday. It was one of three stops in Springfield, the first city on Choi’s statewide tour.

“I’m here to visit a very important component of our mission, which is the organization that serves to provide outreach and to use research and education from the university to make an impact on the community,” said Choi.

In a release sent to news agencies across the state, the University of Missouri System's Board of Curators announced Monday that it plans to announce a new president Wednesday morning. The announcement event, which is slated to take place at the Capital Plaza Hotel in Jefferson City, will begin at 9:30 a.m.

Training has begun for University of Missouri medical students through the Springfield Clinical Campus, a new program that offers more hands on experience and addresses a shortage of physicians in the state.

Officials held a ribbon cutting Monday at the campus, and introduced the nine students that will initially receive training at CoxHealth and Mercy Springfield this summer.

University of Missouri medical students are getting hands on experience in Springfield this summer for the first time through MU’s Clinical Campus in the city.

A ribbon cutting ceremony is planned for Monday at its campus along National Avenue.

Mercy Springfield and CoxHealth are serving as the training grounds for the MU students.

Springfield will soon be the home of a University of Missouri Clinical Campus and expanded healthcare programs at Missouri State University.

The programs are part of an effort to relieve the statewide shortage of healthcare workers. Each had experienced delays in funding, but improvements in the budget and progress at the legislative level this year are moving the programs forward. Those accomplishments were celebrated in a press conference Tuesday morning.
