The non-conference football game between Missouri State University and Sam Houston State University scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 24, in Huntsville, Texas, has been cancelled because of Hurricane Rita. The game will not be rescheduled.

By a vote of 8 to 2, a House committee approved tougher restrictions on abortion providers. The senate approved this bill last week after about 10 hours of debate. Taking center stage at the House committee hearing was the part of the bill that allows parents to sue anyone who helps their minor daughter get an abortion.

Two firefighters from the Branson Fire Department headed for the Gulf Coast this weekend to help with hurricane relief efforts. The Federal Emergency Management Agency has asked full-time fire departments across the country to mobilize two-person teams to serve for 30 days in the disaster areas. FEMA is hoping to have one thousand two-person teams in place. It's not just firefighters who are getting the call. KSMU's Missy Shelton reports.
