Event Description

Season 12 of Northwest Arkansas’s regional professional theatre company TheatreSquared begins August 23rd with the critically acclaimed Broadway hit, the five-time 2015 Tony Award-winner "Fun Home." Based on the bestselling graphic novel by Alison Bechdel, with book and lyrics by Lisa Kron and music by Jeanine Tesori, the New York Times called it a “beautiful heartbreaker of a musical.” It traces Alison Bechdel’s childhood memories growing up playing with her brothers around satin-lined caskets in the Bechdel Funeral Home. After her father dies unexpectedly, Bechdel dove deep into her past to tell the story of the volatile, brilliant, one-of-a-kind man whose temperament and secrets defined her family and her life. Moving between past and present, Alison Bechdel relives her unique childhood and coming-of-age story at the Bechdel Funeral Home. "Fun Home" is a refreshingly honest, cathartic, and wholly original musical about seeing your parents through grown-up eyes. There will be six performances weekly from August 23 through September 17th, Wednesdays through Sundays, in the 175-seat Studio Theatre at Walton Arts Center’s Nadine Baum Studios, 505 W. Spring Street in downtown Fayetteville, Arkansas’s entertainment district. Evening performances are Wed-Sat at 7:30pm, with matinees Saturdays and Sundays at 2:00pm. Season and single tickets are available at theatre2.org or by phone at (479) 443-5600. Tickets range from $17-$48.
