Tickets are selling quickly for the 2018 Opera Theatre of St. Louis Festival Season, which runs Saturday May 19th-June 24th at the Loretto-Hilton Center in St. Louis. Opera Theatre is among the leading American opera companies, with productions that feature some of the most brilliant stars (and future stars) of our generation to sing in the intimate Loretto-Hilton theater, accompanied by members of the St. Louis Symphony. The season opens with Verdi's "La Traviata", and also features Mark Blitzstein's "Regina", based on Lillian Hellman's play "The Little Foxes" and starring veteran opera stars Susan Graham and James Morris; Gluck's "Orpheus and Euridice;" and the world premiere of the new opera "An American Soldier by Huang Ruo and David Henry Hwang, about the son of Chinese immigrants, and a proud American, who enlists in the US Army in 2011, eager to serve his country, but whose army base in Afghanistan turns deadly. Based on a true story, this opera asks powerful questions about what it means to be an American.
