May 06 Monday
On Monday, May 6, Music Monday of The Ozarks will present the Lefty Brothers.
"Trees are Invisible" is a fast-moving, colorful and lively exploration of the deep mystery called TREES. Susan Simard and other groundbreaking scientists have revealed to us an astonishing biological web that nourishes us and teaches us about our place in the world. The presenter is Dan Chiles, local tree farmer and lifetime Sierra Club member. Free and open to the public.
The Ozarks Genealogical Society will present a program on using Missouri State University's historic collections for family research May 6 at the Library Center.
Anne Baker, head of Special Collections and Archives at Missouri State University Libraries, will present.
She will share resources available online and in MSU's Meyer Library. While not focused on genealogy, the collections can help fill in the stories of your family. If your grandmother was a co-ed at Southwest Missouri State Teachers College in the 1920s, she might be in the yearbook. If your great-uncle was among the students who went on a USO Tour in the 1960s, you can look for him in scrapbooks and theatre programs. Stepping off campus, there are newsletters, photographs, and minutes from several local labor unions; oral histories from area veterans; and photos and other documents from the local African American community. The search won't always locate your family members but can give insight to the world your people experienced.
Attendance Options: In person at The Library Center or Zoom for OGS members.

When observing birds in flight, we marvel at the beauty, grace and precision of seemingly effortless movement, seldom thinking of the structure of the wings or the mechanics of executing complex aerial maneuvers. So it is with Dance, where the biomechanical principles of motion, force, momentum, leverage and balance make possible the expression of intense emotions, abstract ideas and complex stories in physical form. In this year’s Spring Dance Concert: Movement Mechanized, we explore the process of human locomotion through a collection of fresh, original works in a mix of dance styles, each composition a piece of kinetic art!
