Springfield City Council approved an ordinance allowing deer hunting with bows and arrows under limited circumstances at its meeting Monday night.  The ordinance restricts hunting within the city limits to two-acre tracts. Hunting has to be done from an elevated position of ten feet, and hunters have to get permission from the property owner. They also are required to take an approved training course.

A special ordinance adopting the East Cherry Flats Redevelopment Plan and Blight Report for an area located along the north side of East Cherry Street between South National Avenue and South Kickapoo Avenue was approved.  But Council voted against the issuance of a conditional use permit to reduce the front yard setback from 25 feet to 15 feet in the area where RKJ Properties plans to build a 24-unit apartment complex.

And Council approved a collective bargaining agreement between the city and the Springfield Fire Department.
