A search has begun for the next superintendent of the Fair Grove School District in northern Greene County.
The school board approved the resignation of Dr. John Link on Friday. The job listing was posted to the district’s website on Monday.
Dr. Link, who has led Fair Grove for the past nine years, has accepted the superintendent’s position for Jackson near Cape Girardeau.
"The Fair Grove R-X School District Board of Education would like to thank Dr. Link for his years of service with our district and the many major accomplishments he has played a key role in achieving this past decade,” read a letter sent to community members. “We wish him well as he starts a new venture with Jackson R-2 and congratulate him on this new position with another school district.”
Under his leadership, citizens have approved two important bond issues for the 1,100-student district, according to Board of Education Secretary Lisa Bernet.
One of those “allowed us to upgrade a lot of our buildings and grounds… and build our middle school and FEMA storm shelter,” she said.
She notes that in 2009 Link played an important role in getting kids back to school that August, after a tornado caused millions in damage to the district just three months earlier.
Link will remain at Fair Grove through June.
The application deadline for the superintendent’s post is Feb. 23. Salary range is between $85,000 and $105,000. District officials hope to fill the position in March.
