The Missouri Lottery says more than $1 billion was won by players in the Show-Me state this year. The details released this week include 23 ticket holders who claimed a total of $331.7 million in top prizes worth $1 million or more.

Locally, a Springfield store sold a $3 million Missouri Lotto ticket to TeDee Bare Trust in June. Scratchers tickets for $1 million apiece went to Geraldine and Terry Pryer of Nixa in June and Tony and Brian Neher of Jasper in October.

The prize tallies from throughout the state take into account tickets from Scratchers, Missouri Lotto, as well as Powerball, Mega Millions and Monopoly Millionaire’s Club.

The Lottery says another nine players won $250,000 playing the new $250K Triple Play game, which started Feb. 23, and 50 players won prizes ranging from $50,000 to $988,000 playing Show Me Cash during the past calendar year.

Despite the payouts, 2014 marked a tumultuous year for the lottery’s administration, which came under fire from Gov. Jay Nixon after failing to produce higher revenues for education. In mid September, Nixon replaced four of the five commissioners who oversee the lottery. A week later, he replaced the other remaining member.

The appointments came after the release of a report recommending that the lottery reconsider how much it spends on prizes and advertising and restructure some contracts. The Missouri Lottery had record sales during the 2014 budget year but provided less money to education than the previous year.
