Greene County officials can move forward with plans for a jail expansion and/or renovation. Preliminary results show 60 percent of voters who cast ballots Tuesday said yes to a ½ cent sales tax for general revenue. Extra tax revenue will support treatment courts and community mental health initiatives in hopes of decreasing the influx of prisoners.
Other items to be funded with the tax include additional staff for the justice center, courts renovation and a community animal control facility.
In Springfield, continuation of the level property tax passed with 75 percent of the vote. That money will fund new fire stations on the city’s west side and new public safety vehicles and equipment among other things.

A sales tax in Fordland gained approval as did a tax renewal for transportation in Lebanon.
