Springfield Councilman Seifried Will Step Down, Move to Branson

City of Springfield

Zone 1 councilman and Springfield Mayor Pro Tem Jeff Seifried will resign his post effective this Friday. He cited a job opportunity outside of the city.

Seifried thanked his fellow council members and city staff during Monday’s regular meeting.

Appointed to Zone 1 in February 2012, Seifried was elected as mayor pro tem in May of that year.

He’s served as the manager of regional development for the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce since 2007.

Seifried told officials Monday that his favorite projects over the past few years have included the Moon City Creative District; developments on Commercial Street, The Heers building, and other projects dedicated toward building a strong center-city district.

Seifried’s term was set to expire in 2017.

Historically, when a councilperson resigns, city council will set a timeframe for the accepting of qualified applications. Once that deadline has passed, those applications are forwarded to council and then interviews are initiated.

Springfield City Charter section 2.5 states that vacancies will be filled with a majority city council vote and the appointee will serve in the position until the next regular city election.

When Councilman Thomas Bieker resigned mid-term in 2012 council interviewed several applicants and ultimately selected Mike Carroll.

Mayor Bob Stephens asked City Manager Burris on Monday to provide an outline and potential timeline for the process for filling the vacancy.

Council will also vote to select a new Mayor Pro Tem.
