Five of the Springfield-Greene County Park Board’s outdoor pools are open for the season, and a sixth is closed pending investigation of a major water leak.
Officials said Wednesday that Meador Pool will close for at least a week after staff discovered the pool was losing water at the rate of 1,500 gallons an hour. Meador holds 240,000 gallons, according to the Park Board.
“A leak was suspected soon after Meador was filled for the season, but the full extent was not known until the pool opened for the season Memorial Day weekend,” read a press release.
An exact timetable for re-opening the facility is unknown, as officials need to identify the break location before determining how long the repairs will take.
Meador Park remains open regular hours. Officials said there is no danger or risk to the public.
Next week's scheduled rentals and programs for Meador Pool are being moved to other pools. Stingrays Swim Team practices scheduled for Tuesday through Friday will be held at Fassnight Pool 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 6:45-7:45 p.m.
Five other outdoor pools are currently open: Fassnight, Grant Beach, McGee/McGregor Wading Pool, Silver Springs and Westport. Each pool is open six days a week, with staggered maintenance schedules Monday-Wednesday.
Indoor swimming is also available at Chesterfield Aquatics Center and Doling Aquatics Center. And the Jordan Valley Park Ozarks Stream and Fountain is also operating daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
