Springfield TV Journalists to Remain in Roanoke for Several Days

Three Springfield television journalists are continuing help with daily news coverage at WDBJ in Roanoke, Virginia following this week’s death of two reporters there.

KY3-TV sent anchor Steve Grant and reporter Eric Hilt to the station, as well as KSPR news director Bridget Lovelle. The decision came after Wednesday’s death of WDBJ journalists Alison Parker and Adam Ward, who were killed during a live news broadcast.

WDBJ and KY3 are both owned by Indiana-based Schurz Communications. KSPR is owned by Perkin Media but operated by Schurz under a shared services agreement.

In an email to KSMU, KY3 General Manager Brian McDonough said that he is not sure how much longer the journalists will be needed in Virginia, but expected it to be for several more days.

In a statement posted to its website, Schurz Communications CEO Todd Schurz said, “We are heartbroken at the tragic and senseless loss of reporter Alison Parker and photographer Adam Ward. At the time of their murders, they were involved in the most important aspect of journalism–telling the stories important to their local communities. Our focus now is to comfort their families and loved ones and to assist law enforcement in their investigation.”
