The Missouri Highway Patrol, Troop D, says it will hold sobriety checkpoints in Barry and Newton Counties this month. Captain Juan Villanueva, Troop D commanding officer, says they'll also conduct driving while intoxicated saturations in Barry and Greene Counties and hazardous moving violation saturations in Newton and McDonald Counties. Click It or Ticket enforcement operations are planned from May 18-31 in Greene, Jasper and Lawrence Counties, according to Villanueva.
During the Memorial Day weekend, Troop D officers will participate in special enforcement operations, according to a news release. The goal is to reduce the number and severity of traffic crashes. During the long holiday weekend, troopers will take part in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort). The Highway Patrol says troopers will also participate in the statewide 20-mile Trooper Project during the peak travel periods on May 22 and May 25. Troopers will be assigned to 20-mile stretches on I-44. A similar enforcement effort will be made at the same time within Troop D on secondary roads identified as high crash areas, according to the news release.
