Sue Garand will sell and sign copies of “Silent Warrior” from noon-2 tomorrow (12/19) in the Library Center concourse. “Silent Warrior” was written by Garand’s father, the late J. Curtis Goldman. DVDs of the book will also be available for purchase.  Goldman served as a glider pilot in World War II. “Silent Warriors” relives the harrowing and little-known experiences of a small group of fearless daredevils. They flew terrified American soldiers in what were known as “flying coffins,” into open fields, behind enemy lines in the midst of raging battles.  Proceeds from the book signing will be used to purchase food and gifts for participants in Victory Mission’s Victory Square for Men program.

The Springfield Conservation Nature Center’s Hiking Club will go on a six-mile hike at Bennett Spring State Park tomorrow (12/19).  To register, 888-4237.

Build a gingerbread house tomorrow (12/19) from 1 to 3 at the Park Central Library.  Materials will be provided.

The Midtown Concert Series will feature “Keyboards at Christmas” Sunday afternoon (12/20) at 3 at Central Christian Church, 1475 N. Washington.  Admission is free.

The 2nd annual Springfield Homeless Person’s Memorial Day will be observed Sunday night (12/20) at 6:30 in the Rare Breed parking lot, 301 N. Main.  The day serves as a reminder of the hardships and risks people living without shelter face.  Hot chocolate and vigil candles will be provided.
