Prep work has begun on Sun Target II, John Henry’s abstract sculpture and two other sculptures on the Springfield Art Museum grounds. It’s the beginning of the public art’s restoration process, which is set to begin in earnest on Monday.
The Museum raised $17,100 to make improvements to the grounds, most of which came through the #SaveTheFrenchFries Campaign on Give Ozarks Day.
"Sun Target II" was acquired by the Museum in 1980 with help from the Missouri Arts Council and the Ola E. McAdoo bequest. Prior to finding its permanent home in Springfield it was exhibited in Chicago, New York City, and Atlanta.
Ernest Trova’s "AV/T.S.C.," a gift to the Museum in 1980 by Alvin Siteman, and "ABSTRACT VARIATION (X)," a gift to the Museum in 1981 by Trova, will also be restored.
Restoration work is estimated to take a month depending on weather conditions.
