It was a Republican sweep in Christian County Tuesday.  Here are local election results from that county:

Republican Jennifer Growcock ran unopposed in the race for circuit judge. 

Republican Lynn Morris defeated Democrat Jim Billedo for representative of House District 140 with 76 percent of the vote.

Republican Jered Taylor ran unopposed for representative of House District 139. 

Another race that featured only one candidate was House District 138, which was won by Republican Don Phillips.

Dozens of Missouri counties that received damage from this summer’s flooding will be reimbursed for a majority of those repairs. The help comes after Friday’s announcement that President Barack Obama has approved Gov. Jay Nixon’s request for a major disaster declaration.

Missouri Conservation Department

The Missouri Department of Conservation euthanized a healthy black bear in Christian County this week.  Department officials say the 250-pound male bear had become an ongoing nuisance and threat to a homeowner--likely because someone in the area had been feeding it.  MDC says this is an example of why people should not feed bears.The homeowner followed the advice of MDC staff and removed any potential food sources, but the bear continued to visit her home and a neighbor’s home in search of food.  Monday, the Conservation Department captured the bear, which showed little agitation towards s

Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon has requested the federal government to declare a major disaster declaration for more than half of Missouri’s 114 counties, including much of the Ozarks.

The 70 total counties listed suffered prolonged severe storm systems from tornadoes and straight line winds to torrential rain and flooding, which resulted in 10 deaths.

The Christian County Commission has approved the date of a special election to replace Joey Kyle, who resigned Wednesday from his post as sheriff before pleading guilty to embezzlement and fraud.

Commissioners voted 3-0 Thursday to set the date for August 4. See the notice for countywide special election.
