Springfield’s City Council candidates for Zone 2 offered similar views on many issues such as the budget, economic development options and public safety resources during a forum Thursday.

Dr. Thomas Prater, Incumbent Zone 2 Councilman, is seeking to retain the seat he was appointed to in September 2016. He’s challenged by Helen Gunther. The event, held at Evangel University, marked the third of four town-hall style forums presented by the Springfield News-Leader this month.

Springfield’s newest councilman is hosting a community meeting for Zone 2 constituents Wednesday night.

Dr. Tom Prater was selected in September to fill the vacancy left by Justin Burnett.

He’ll meet with Zone 2 neighbors to discuss what’s happening the area, Wednesday evening from 6-7:30 at Alice Pittman Elementary. The school is located at 2934 E. Bennett.

Springfield City Council has chosen a new Zone 2 City Council representative, replacing Justin Burnett who resigned after moving out of that area.

Dr. Thomas Prater was selected from eight candidates at a special City Council meeting today.  Prater, who was born in Springfield, is an eye surgeon with Mattax-Neu-Prater Eye Center and has lived in Zone 2 for nine years.

He’ll serve on council until the certification of the April 4, 2017 election. The winner of that election will serve the remainder of the unexpired Zone 2 term through April 2019.
