Hundreds gathered inside Missouri State University’s Ellis Hall Sunday for the renovated music building’s dedication ceremony. Community members filed in for self-guided tours and to hear music by Missouri State’s Chorale and brass band.

Dr. Shawn Wahl, interim dean of the College of Arts and Letters, said the upgraded facility sends a message to students to be “bigger and bolder.” He said Missouri State can now be a “destination school” for the arts.

Lt. Gov. Mike Parson is prepared to implement a never-before used article of the Missouri Constitution forcing Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal out of office if she doesn’t resign by the September veto session.

Parson made the announcement during a press conference in Springfield Friday, a day after Chappelle-Nadal’s now-deleted Facebook comment hoping for the assassination of President Donald Trump.

The Roy Blunt Jordan Valley Innovation Center is celebrating its 10 year anniversary.  What used to be the Missouri Farmers Association milling facility in Downtown Springfield opened its doors on May 30, 2007. 

JVIC is now a seven story technology and research based facility that allows Missouri State students to have hands on experience working with faculty on new developments while also helping local businesses.

The state’s lieutenant governor is exploring ways to improve service for the nearly 495,000 veterans that call Missouri home.

Mike Parson held a veterans town hall in Springfield Friday morning, part of a series of visits throughout the city to discuss issues ranging from economic development to domestic violence. About 25 people attended the morning event at the Mid-town Library, which also included representatives with local veterans service organizations.

A special election has been set to fill the vacancy left by Sen. Mike Parson, who was elected Missouri’s lieutenant governor in November.

Gov. Eric Greitens announced Tuesday that the special election will take place on August 8. Parson’s former 28th senate district covers parts of eight southwest Missouri counties, including Dade, Cedar, Polk, and Dallas.
