The world of teenage runaways is a precarious one, fraught with emotional turbulence and all sorts of dangers. The Missouri State University Theatre and Dance Department weaves a theatrical and musical tapestry with Elizabeth Swados’ powerful musical "Runaways," directed by Kurt Heinlein.

As an artist-in-residence in Edinburgh, Scotland during summer 2013, Ruth Barnes, coordinator of the dance program at Missouri State University, collaborated with five other choreographers to design an hour-long dance solo that centered on the theme of displacement. They named it, “Here, There and Everywhere.”

Barnes brought her unique style of dance to Missouri State back in 2005 – a style she calls non-linear narrative contemporary. There may be a story, but as she describes it, it may be out of sequence, and it’s open to interpretation.

The Missouri State University Theatre and Dance Department presents Thornton Wilder's classic11938 Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Our Town November 20-23 in Craig Hall Coger Theatre.  Directing this production is a new member of the MSU Theatre and Dance faculty, Assistant Professor Melanie Dreyer-Lude.  She came here from the theater faculty of Cornell University in Ithaca, NY and says, "I was very glad to come back to the Midwest"--not least because the dean at Cornell was forced, for economic reasons, to cut their theater department budget in half!

On Tuesday morning, April 20, 1999, senior classmates Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold arrived at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado, a Denver suburb. Armed with guns and home-made bombs, the pair proceeded to kill 12 fellow students and one teacher before killing themselves. In the days following this massacre that shocked the world, media coverage was full of the “Who, What, Where, When and How” of this horrific event, but the question “Why?” remains to this day. The documentary drama "columbinus" will open the 2014-2015 season of Missouri State University Tent Theatre.
