Christian County

The top law enforcement official in Christian County has resigned his post and pleaded guilty to stealing county dollars and money laundering.

53-year-old Joey Kyle, who had served as sheriff since 2009, pleaded guilty in federal court Wednesday. As part of a plea agreement, he’ll serve one year and one day in prison without parole. In addition, Kyle must pay $50,290 in restitution to Christian County and forfeit a money judgment of $71,640 to the government, which officials say represents the proceeds he received from his criminal conduct.

City of Nixa

The city of Nixa will soon be seeking a replacement on its council, as District 1 member Kyle Vogel has submitted his resignation.

Vogel, who has lived in Nixa for nine years and was serving his second term on council, says he and his family will be moving back to Iowa City, Iowa.

His resignation is effective June 15.

Council will now appoint someone to fill the vacancy. Mayor Brian Steele said Wednesday that interested residents of District 1 need to submit a letter to City Clerk Cindy Robbins by June 1. That chosen applicant will be sworn in on June 15.
